Pelitre-(Anacyclus-pyrethrum)-(f5r)

Pellitory (Anacyclus pyrethrum) (f5r)

Pellitory, whose root is the part of greatest virtue, is of notable benefit in oppressions and in pains accompanying fevers. It is of a hot and dry quality, somewhat astringent and resolving in nature, and it clears obstructions, helping to expel superfluous humors. Applied outwardly, it contracts the tissues in swellings and ulcers, promoting their drying; by stirring the natural heat of the skin it may also provoke sweating.
When the root is well dried and reduced to powder, it excites sneezing, by which action it clears the head and relieves congestions. It is commonly prepared as a thick paste with vinegar, and thus applied in poultices, being useful in deep-seated pains, even in those thought to proceed from the bones.
It is held to be a stimulant to the nerves, and for this reason some employ it in cases of epilepsy and nervous weakness. It strengthens the nerve and aids in the healing of wounds when suitably applied.
In headache it mitigates the pain effectively, without causing harm even when the condition is longstanding. Administered in small quantity or applied as a dressing, it benefits the muscles, strengthening them and enabling its virtue to penetrate the affected limb. It resolves inflammations, promotes the circulation of the blood in the veins, and relieves various pains. Mixed with resin, it is likewise used in the treatment of ulcers, contributing to their cleansing and improvement.
