Hellebore (Helleborus) (f53r)
Hellebore is beneficial for febrile illness and the heaviness that accompanies it; its action is deep and balanced, acting upon the abdomen and ripening the humors. The root is crushed and pressed together with the leaves; among plants, its root is of good quality. Its root serves against pain and is an excellent medicinal plant for fever, and its leaves are also used in medicine. It induces vomiting, benefits the spleen, and expels disease; this root is effective. In ulcers that form thick and heavy nodules, it is applied against fever according to the prescribed remedies. The root is boiled; the leaf is good; its nature is known and it is used for purification. All of this is ground, and the root is mixed with its seed. The preparation is made in moist and aromatic form; the leaves are well known for their virtue. The seeds are soaked in sweet syrup, and a small amount of honey is suitable with this root.
